Texas Department of State Health Services Bureau of Emergency Management EMS Requirements

Texas Emergency Medical Care Personnel certifications expire every four years. 25 TAC §157.34(a)(4)(A). For recertification, an application shall submit one of the following:

  • Examination using the National Registry Assessment Exam
  • Continuing education
  • Documentation of current registration with the National Registry
  • Complete a formal recertification course

National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) to maintain NREMT certification and Texas state licenses.

Requirements for EMT-P:

144 hours every four years. 25 TAC §157.38(c). Enroll in our Paramedic Recertification Bundle to fulfill these requirements. This course also includes access to our Anytime CEU Program.


Requirements for EMT-I:

108 hours every four years. 25 TAC §157.38(c). Enroll in our Recertification Bundle to fulfill these requirements. This course also includes access to our Anytime CEU Program.


Requirements for EMT-B:

72 hours every four years. 25 TAC §157.38(c). Enroll in our BLS NCCP + Anytime refresher course to fulfill these requirements.


Requirements for ECA:

36 hours every four years. 25 TAC §157.38(c). Enroll in our 18 Hour NREMR Refresher refresher course to fulfill these requirements.
