This self-paced advanced course provides an in-depth exploration of trauma management in the critical care transport environment.
- Examine mechanisms of injury, kinematics, and the physiologic stressors unique to ground and air transport, with emphasis on how these factors influence assessment, stabilization, and patient outcomes.
- Key topics include triage priorities, trauma scoring systems, and the management of blunt, penetrating, and blast-related injuries. Special focus is given to life-threatening thoracic and abdominal emergencies such as tension pneumothorax, hemothorax, and solid organ injuries.
- Review packaging considerations, equipment requirements, and documentation standards to ensure continuity of care during transport.
- Addresses the unique needs of special populations—pediatric, geriatric, bariatric, and obstetric patients—requiring modified strategies for safe and effective care.
- Through the integration of psychosocial assessment, diagnostic data, and outcome evaluation, providers will strengthen their ability to deliver comprehensive trauma care under the challenging conditions of transport.
By the conclusion of this course, EMS and critical care providers will be better equipped to anticipate complications, apply systematic assessment techniques, and ensure trauma patients receive timely, appropriate, and safe transport to definitive care.
