This self-paced course equips EMS providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform thorough and effective pediatric assessments in both medical and trauma scenarios.

  • Explores the key anatomical, physiological, and developmental differences that distinguish pediatric patients from adults.
  • Covers differences that significantly influence airway management, cardiovascular evaluation, neurological function, and pain perception.
  • Emphasizes age-appropriate communication strategies, caregiver engagement, and cultural sensitivity to improve patient outcomes and build trust with families.
  • Will gain proficiency in using the Pediatric Assessment Triangle
  • Teaches techniques for detailed physical exams across all pediatric age groups and recognizing early signs of common emergencies including respiratory distress, dehydration, sepsis, and trauma.
  • In depth coverage of pain assessment and management techniques, including both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions tailored to developmental stages. Special attention is given to identifying non-accidental trauma, managing communication with special needs children, and involving families as key partners in care.

By the end of this course, providers will be prepared to deliver confident, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate care to pediatric patients in a variety of prehospital settings.
