This self-paced course is designed for EMS professionals who make field triage and trauma transport decisions.

  • Provides a structured approach to trauma triage
  • Emphasizing evidence-based guidelines that help determine the most appropriate transport destination for injured patients
  • Explores trauma center designations, mechanisms of injury assessment, and physiological and anatomical criteria for triage
  • Reviews the latest field triage guidelines, updates from the 2011 criteria, and best practices for minimizing both under-triage and over-triage in the prehospital setting.

Through case-based scenarios, EMS providers will refine their decision-making skills, applying field triage principles in real-world situations such as motor vehicle crashes, falls, and multisystem trauma. The course also highlights the importance of coordination with local trauma systems and EMS medical direction to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

By the end of the course, providers will have enhanced their ability to apply triage guidelines effectively, prioritize critically injured patients, and ensure transport to the most appropriate facility based on injury severity and available resources.
