This self-paced course is designed for EMS professionals who respond to patients experiencing environmental emergencies.

  • Explores the pathophysiology, assessment, and management of various environmental conditions
  • Covers heat-related illnesses and hypothermia
  • Covers drowning and dive injuries
  • Covers altitude sickness and envenomations

Participants will gain insight into the mechanisms of thermoregulation, heat transfer, and the impact of environmental factors on patient care. The course covers essential interventions such as cooling and rewarming techniques, fluid resuscitation, airway management, and specialized treatments like hyperbaric oxygen therapy for dive emergencies and high-altitude illness management.

Through case-based learning and evidence-based practices, this course enhances providers’ ability to recognize life-threatening environmental emergencies and apply appropriate field treatments, improving patient outcomes in challenging prehospital and transport settings.
