This self-paced course is designed for EMS professionals who respond to neonatal emergencies in the prehospital setting.
- Covers essential concepts in neonatal assessment, resuscitation, and stabilization.
- Explore the physiological transition from fetus to newborn
- Covers common complications such as delayed transition, meconium aspiration, respiratory distress, and hypoglycemia.
- Emphasizes best practices in neonatal resuscitation, including APGAR scoring, airway management, positive pressure ventilation (PPV), and neonatal CPR.
- Covers critical conditions such as congenital anomalies, prematurity, and low birth weight.
- Addresses appropriate interventions for neonatal hypothermia, acidosis, and shock
Through case-based learning and evidence-based guidelines, this course enhances EMS providers’ ability to assess, manage, and transport neonates in need of urgent care. Special considerations for neonatal transport and communication with receiving facilities will also be reviewed. By the end of this course, providers will have an improved ability to recognize and treat neonatal emergencies, ensuring better survival rates and outcomes for their smallest patients.
