$800 Training Stipend Now Available for TN EMS Providers: Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’re a full-time EMS provider working for a licensed ambulance service in Tennessee, there’s great news—you may be eligible for an $800 training pay supplement, thanks to a new rule enacted by the Tennessee Department of Health.

Here’s the deal:

The new rule (1200-12-01-.22) was established to implement Public Chapter 372, which authorizes a one-time $800 pay supplement for EMS personnel who complete at least 40 hours of in-service training. The goal is to support professional development and reward EMS providers for staying sharp with current practices and knowledge.

Who’s eligible?

To qualify, you must:

· Be a full-time EMS employee (30+ hours/week) of a licensed Tennessee ambulance service.

· Complete a minimum of 40 hours of in-service training on or after January 1, 2024.

· Complete the training through an approved training center or program (like DistanceCME!), and it must be live or include live face-to-face interaction.

· Ensure your agency submits proof of training to the state within 30 business days of completion.

How it works:

Once you’ve completed your training, your ambulance service—if registered as a supplier in the state’s EDISON system—will receive the stipend funds directly from the Department of Health. They are then responsible for distributing the $800 to you within 30 calendar days or the next regular pay cycle.

Important: you can only receive this supplement once per calendar year, and only through one licensed ambulance service. So, make sure your agency is participating and properly registered!

Why this matters:

It’s not every day the state recognizes the importance of EMS continuing education with direct compensation. This is a win for Tennessee EMS professionals—and a great reason to complete your training with a trusted provider like DistanceCME.
