How does it work?

  • Enroll and pay for the eACLS course. You will receive an email with the log on information to the online eACLS course.
  • Distance CME will ship to you the Mini AED trainer, BVM, inflatable manikin, printed ECGs.
  • Log into the eACLS site. Complete the online course and print out your certificate.
  • Once you have completed the online course and received the testing equipment contact Distance CME™ at admin@distanceCME.com and schedule an appointment to do the webcam skills evaluation. Let Distance CME know your name, your availability to do the skills exam(and time zone), and your name on Skype(see below)

Technical requirements: You must have a high speed internet connection with a webcam. the webcam must have a refresh rate that is fast enough so that you can be seen in real time performing the skills by the instructor. You must have a Skype account in order to webcam with the instructor. You can download Skype for free here.

Do the skills exam via webcam with the Distance CME™ instructor. You will be required to demonstrate CPR, bag valve mask ventilation, and appropriate management of cardiac arrest and ACS patients. Once you successfully complete the didactic and skills evaluation you will be mailed a eACLS completion card by Distance CME™.

In order to receive a wallet card endorsed by the American College of Emergency Physicians, you must successfully complete a skills evaluation. There are two ways to complete the skills evaluation. You can go to a local approved eACLS training site and have them administer the skills evaluation. The second and most convenient option is to have Distance CME perform your skills evaluation by webcam.

eACLS is accepted by hospitals, health care systems, fire departments, and EMS systems nationwide. Here is the NJ DOH waiver accepting eACLS eACLS Waiver

eACLS™ covers the ten advanced cardiac life support topics required for certification:

  • Acute coronary syndromes
  • AED use
  • Asystole
  • Bradycardia
  • Narrow complex tachycardia
  • Pulseless electrical activity
  • Respiratory arrest
  • Stroke
  • Ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia
  • Wide complex tachycardia

The online course takes an average of four hours to complete (approximately 20 minutes per topic). After completing all 10 sections of the course, a 50-question final exam follows. A score of 84% or higher on the final exam is required.

Continuing Ed Credits

Following successful completion of the cognitive portion of the online eACLS™ course, continuing education credits are immediately awarded as follows:

  • 6 hours of AMA Category 1 CME credit and 6 hours of ACEP Category I CME credit for physicians and physician assistants
  • 6.8 clinical CEH for nurses provided by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)
  • 6 Advanced Continuing Education Hours (CEH) provided by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS)

The medical content for eACLS is provided by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). It is designed to meet the international ECC guidelines for advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

The American College of Emergency Physicians is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American College of Emergency Physicians designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6 Category 1 credits towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

State Approvals for Pre-hospital ALS Providers

eACLS™ has been approved by CECBEMS. The NREMT will accept continuing education and verification of ACLS in programs that are CECBEMS or state EMS office approved. The American College of Emergency Physicians has contacted all 50 states regarding state approval for the eACLS™ course. Most states have indicated that CECBEMS approval is sufficient.

In accordance with ACCME Standards, all faculty are required to disclose to participants in this CME activity any real or apparent conflicts of interest related to the material they contributed.
